Today we had the wonderful opportunity to go to the Air Show at Nellis AFB a day early. The show is open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, but they opened it up on Friday for military families. I am so glad we went because it was such an incredible experience for us all...especially the kids.
The Thunderbirds were scheduled to fly at 2pm, so we got there a bit early (around 1:20). We weren't sure what to expect, but they had all of the planes and things on display already and we were even able to go inside of some planes and a helicopter!
When 2:00 rolled around, we made our way over to where the Thunderbirds were parked. If you have ever been to an air show, you know that the crowds are killer. There is just a crush of people, and it nearly takes the fun out of it. This was a completely different experience. We were able to stand right by the fence with nobody behind us at all, and had a front row seat to the incredible presentation.
The kids had an amazing time. Megan didn't love the planes so much (too noisy), but her favorite part was the parachute guys. The boys loved the Thunderbirds, and they loved getting in the helicopter and putting on all the gear. AJ sat in the cockpit and asked questions for a LONG time, and the pilot was very patient with him.
Overall, it was just a great afternoon. I am so glad we decided to go, and am so glad the kids got to experience everything without crowds pushing at them.
As usual, there are TONS of pictures in the gallery. I really did pare them down, but there were so many fun shots, that I couldn't post just a few. Enjoy!
