We have started only one main tradition that I didn't have growing up. We call it "pajama-like". On Christmas Eve, each family member opens a new pair of pajamas. The tradition started with Ray's family, and it has been so much fun to continue. The kids are always so cute going to bed in their brand new Christmas jammies.
I love pretty much everything about the holiday season. The bustle in all of the stores, the Christmas music (and everyone singing along). I love Christmas decorations (I think we'd leave our tree up year round if we could). I love buying and wrapping gifts. I love the cold weather, and bundling up. I love the excitement in my kids faces as they anticipate the big day. I love the cookies and fudge and treats (even though my hips don't love them!). I love remembering my first Christmas with Ray, and our little tree in the hotel room.
The hardest part of the holiday season, since becoming an adult, has been being so far from family. I miss them so desperately. I miss the salad supper, and the wonderful candlelight Christmas Eve service. We have been so blessed to spend most of our Christmases with family. The year I was pregnant with AJ, Ray's mom and brother visited. The year AJ turned one, we drove home and visited both of our families. The next year, I was home with my family, but the most important person (Ray) was missing. The next year, we lived with Ray's mom and brother, and obviously spent Christmas with them (I was 9 month pregnant that year). Fondue was interesting that year, but still tasty.

Last year, my parents were able to fly out to Vegas and spend Christmas with us. Family makes Christmas so much better.
I have so many favorite Christmas foods. Eggnog is one of them. I love the stuff...but only in small quantities. And I love the eggnog shake from McDonald's. Other favorites are: Debbie's fudge, hot cocoa, candy canes, and chocolate covered pretzels (I really like the ones Ray's mom makes that have an m&m on top). Oh, and of course PARTY MIX! Yummy.
GIFTS
I love giving gifts, and I'd be lying if I said that I didn't love GETTING gifts too.

But buying them is so much fun for me. I love looking for bargains, and getting the most for my money.
This year I am making several gifts. The boys will each be getting homemade pj pants, and Megan will get a nightgown. I'm making a doll for Megan, as well as a Megan-sized oven mitt (to go with the kitchen she will receive). I'm considering making mittens for all of the kids, but that will depend on whether or not I have time. Oh, and I am, of course, making some ornaments. I'm making a few other things, but won't mention them here so as not to spoil the surprise.

There will be lots of new pictures after the holidays though!
CONCLUSION
I just love Christmas. It can be a hard and lonely time of the year, but when I think about all God has blessed us with, and I remember that I have my family right here with me, I know that it will be a wonderful Christmas no matter what.
