I'm holding
a book with a subtitle of the title of this post. It's an attempt to systematically attack everything claiming to be a Bible other than the King James Authorized Version. Unfortunately, that end result does little to actually help a person believe the Bible, so it got me to thinking: What is the key to believing the Bible?
I've often sought to study the origins of the Bible and how it got handed down through the generations. I've questioned the history books and scholars. I've wondered whether God's hand was supremely controlling the canon, the translators, etc. But unfortunately, even if the Bible is completely true and worthy of believing, the history books are not.
But a little more than ten years ago, I discovered something that I didn't even realize at the time. If the Bible is true, it will prove itself. I don't need to study history books to find the origins of the Bible. I need to learn to study the Bible in front of me to see if it shows itself worthy of my faith.
Friend, if I live my life according to the Old Testament Proverbs, do they prove true? If I study the accounts of the Gospels, do they agree completely? If I examine the doctrine of John, does Paul completely agree? When I examine the God of David, is He the same as the God of Joseph?
The book that you hold that claims to be the Bible, will answer nothing but yes, if that book is true. I wish I had the time to really pen the proofs question by question. But know this, if you really want to know the key to believing the Bible, it's not in extra-biblical chaff and it isn't copyrighted by an honorary doctor, the key is right there in front of you.
