The last couple of days have been rough for my family. We had a significant loss in the family, and everyone is grieving. I had planned on doing some early spring cleaning this week, and when I'm upset I often want to do hard cleaning. So, the spring cleaning has commenced.
I knew I wanted to begin with the closets. We have 6 closets in our condo, and every one of them needs to be emptied and cleaned out. Yesterday, I got three of them done: the two in the hallway, and the one in our master bedroom. All three were a pretty major undertaking. I ended up with 4 bags for goodwill, 2 bags of trash, and 2 boxes of stuff to take to the attic. I am so happy with how those closets look now as they are very organized. Now I just need to keep them that way!
Today I wanted to work on the boys closet. At Christmastime, we had to do some major rearranging in our living room, and a whole bunch of books ended up on the floor of the boys' closet. The bookshelf ended up full of "stuff". So in order to get the books out of the closet, I had to clean the bookshelf of course. Ended up with a big box for goodwill and another bag. We have way too much stuff!
Anyhow, I learned something about myself yesterday and today. I am obsessed with paper. I organized my stationery yesterday and ended up with 5 containers of stationery products. Here are three of them, and they are full...
I also realized I'm obsessed with journals. I have half of a bookshelf full of journals (I actually counted 21). Most have been written in once or twice. One or two of them are nearly full. A few are empty. And I can tell you that this isn't all of them. I know I have more in the container marked "notebooks...", and there is at least one in the living room that I use currently. I can't throw any of them away, so don't suggest it. I'm keeping them. And I want more, so that's an easy gift if anyone is ever needing an idea.
Anyhow, I'm enjoying the cleaning. It's nice to purge a bit, and it's nice seeing the happy surprise on Ray's face when he realizes how hard I've worked while he was off making money. And it's been good for me to keep my mind off of all of the unfairness of this life.
Keep checking for updates. Soon, I'll tackle the top half of the boys' closet, and Megan's closet. And eventually, on a day that I'm feeling incredibly brave, I'll venture into the fabric closet and try to get my fabric stash under control. Stay tuned....
