Ray and I decided to go with blue as our color of choice this Easter. Last year it was yellow (which really was kind of ugly on the guys), and the year before it was green. Since Ray already has a nice blue shirt, we decided that blue was the way to go this year.
It was also decided that the boys would get new blue dress shirts and ties. They've been begging to wear a tie like daddy for a while now, so we decided that Easter was the perfect occasion.
I knew I wanted to make something matching for Megan and me, so off to the fabric store I went.
My options for this particular shade of blue were very limited. I was pretty surprised by that, since it's such a pretty color. However, I ended up finding a fabric that I fell in love with, and ultimately came home with.
When I got home, I took it out of the bag to show it to Ray, and it was then that I saw it in a completely different light. For one, it looked exactly like I remembered my bedsheets as a kid looking. For two (and the bigger problem), it had a graduated pattern that had a wrong way and a right way. (The flowers were small on the top and big on the bottom, and they had stems that pointed down.) Not ideal for making the patterns I had bought.
In the end, I made a few small changes to Megan's dress to make it work, and I went with a completely different pattern for my skirt. I'm very happy with the results. Here are a few pictures.
Here we are together. My skirt was very simple, and only took about an hour to make. I added a small lace trim at the bottom because hemming it was going to make it too short.
Here's a picture of Megan's dress, to show length and fit.
A not so great picture of the back.
This picture kind of shows the slip. It was attached to the dress, and had a ruffle of tulle attached to make the skirt have a bit of poof. I hadn't ever done anything like that before, and I am so happy with how it turned out.
And I had to make her matching hair bows of course. These are just simple korkers attached to regular plastic barrettes. They were SO cute.
Oh, and here's a picture of my old bedsheets for comparison.

Megan is so adorable. Love the dress-- you did a great job!
If you move to Iowa I can spoil her a lot. hint, hint.
