The Kiss

Surely you've seen the famous black and white photo of a sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square. Known as "The Kiss," it sums up the jubilation and relief at the end of World War II.

For 62 years, Glenn McDuffie of Texas has claimed to be the sailor in that picture, and for 62 years no body has listened.

The crew consisted of four men.

Spc. William Pfeiffer was alone up front and driving. Behind Pfeiffer was the crawl space called the “hell hole” that led to crew compartment.

Standing in the front left hatch was Lt. Brad Krauss, the platoon leader. To Krauss’ right stood Staff Sgt. Daniel Walwark who operated the missiles and a machinegun. In the large single hatch to the rear of the stood Pfc. Devon Hoch.

I don't know which Kenny Chesney song they were listening to before the bomb exploded, but I played my favorite over and over while writing their story, wondering what might have been going through their minds just before the detonation.

New Service Dress Coats

So the Air Force has decided once again that our uniforms are not ~~ugly enough~~ presenting a military image. Personally, I like the BDUs, but I'm not going to complain about losing them today. No, I'm gonna complain about having to buy a new ~~uglier~~ coat for the Service Dress.

Nearly two-thirds of the people who responded to Air Force Times informal poll indicated they prefer the current uniform to the new heritage-inspired design.
